ATLANTA Melissa Oellerich New, an associate in Troutman Pepper’s Energy practice, has been recognized with the KINDness Matters Award by Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), the preeminent international nongovernmental organization devoted to the protection of unaccompanied and separated children.

Established 16 years ago, KIND has more than 870 pro bono partners who have donated nearly 1.5 million hours in legal services. With the help of these pro bono partners, KIND provides legal representation to children in need and educates children on their legal rights. New is one of three attorneys recognized by KIND in the Atlanta market for her pro bono work with the organization.

At Troutman Pepper, New focuses her practice primarily on advising and representing utilities in connection with regulatory litigation matters. She has advised clients on trade secret matters, prudence issues, and construction monitoring proceedings for nuclear plant cost recovery; state ratemaking proceedings, including cost-of-capital issues; nuclear plant development cost recovery; integrated resource planning issues; and Georgia Territorial Act disputes.

Each year, Troutman Pepper attorneys dedicate thousands of pro bono hours in support of nonprofits, immigrants, military veterans, children, the wrongfully convicted, civil rights and social justice initiatives, and so many more. Learn more at troutman.com/pro-bono.
