Alina, an organic chemist by training, assists a wide range of clients with their intellectual property needs, including large and small pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, and medical device companies; startups; and academic institutions and universities. She has significant experience in structuring small- and large-molecule patent portfolios; prosecuting domestic and international patents; and conducting due diligence, freedom-to-operate, patentability, and competitive landscape searches.

For more than 10 years, Alina has participated in all aspects of U.S. and international utility and design patent prosecution, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications as well as post-grant proceedings, including ex parte re-examinations and IPRs. Additionally, she has experience preparing invalidity and noninfringement opinions, and assisting with PTE applications for FDA-approved drugs and patent litigation, including Hatch-Waxman litigation.

Alina has authored a number of publications and is the recipient of several professional awards. An active member of the community, she enjoys judging science fairs and competitions, and interviewing MIT applicants as part of the MIT Educational Council. She is also a member of several professional organizations.

Alina earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from The Scripps Research Institute under the guidance of Nobel Prize winner Dr. K. Barry Sharpless. While earning her bachelor’s degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she interned for AstraZeneca.
