Andy is a fellow of The Pepper Center for Public Service, and now uses his 40 years of experience as a trial attorney to represent indigent immigrants in protecting their rights under federal law. For more than 30 years as an associate and partner of the firm, Andy focused his practice on the defense of pharmaceutical product liability claims brought by individuals and by state attorneys general, before turning his attention to full-time pro bono representation.

As a trial attorney, Andy tried to verdict several dozen jury and nonjury matters (including obtaining an acquittal in a first-degree murder case), argued appeals in federal and state courts, and appeared before the federal Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.

Before joining the firm in 1985, Andy served as an assistant district attorney for five years in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, and he also worked at another Philadelphia law firm.

  • Served as national counsel in defending a pharmaceutical manufacturer against claims that the company failed to warn physicians of a variety of adverse effects allegedly caused by the company’s antipsychotic medication, including serving as lead trial counsel in an eight-week jury trial, resulting in a defense verdict.
  • Defended oncologists, orthopedic surgeons, pediatricians, emergency department physicians, and a major children’s hospital in catastrophic injury cases.
  • Pro bono representation of individuals seeking asylum and other relief before immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, federal Courts of Appeal, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
  • Seeking humanitarian relief for individuals at risk in Afghanistan.
