Baird is a partner in the Insurance Transactional + Regulatory practice. He counsels insurance companies on securities matters, public company SEC reporting, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, financing deals, divestitures, restructurings, and joint ventures. Before joining the firm, Baird served as vice president and associate general counsel for two leading specialty insurers.

Baird’s industry transactional experience includes a series of health insurance joint ventures between a national managed care company and several large hospital systems. He also has represented specialty insurers and insurance holding companies in capital markets transactions, including senior notes offerings totaling nearly $1 billion and multiple 144A/Reg S common equity offerings for insurance holding companies raising several hundred million dollars each.

Outside his insurance work, Baird represents nonprofits and cultural institutions. His securities, regulatory, and compliance experience is broad, spanning banks, trust companies, hedge funds, investment advisers, and family offices. He also has developed compliance programs and conducted internal investigations and audits.

He serves on the advisory board of After School Matters, a Chicago nonprofit that provides after-school and summer program opportunities to more than 15,000 high schoolers each year. In addition, he is a long-standing coach for his sons’ youth football program.
