Representative Matters

Chelsea counsels and represents clients regarding a wide range of complex insurance and reinsurance issues across life, health, property, and casualty business. These issues include, but are not limited to, policy and contract interpretation, yearly renewable term reinsurance premiums, underwriting and claims handling practices, follow the fortunes and follow the settlements, allocation, rescission, fraud, misrepresentation, offset, notice, aggregation, and sunset and commutation clauses. Chelsea has experience litigating in state and federal courts, as well as domestic and international arbitration proceedings.

Chelsea previously served as in-house legal counsel for a leading global reinsurer, where she led in advising the company’s global delegated underwriting operations with respect to all property and casualty portfolio business underwritten via MGA, Lloyd’s Coverholder, and other fronting arrangements.

  • Achieved a significant victory for a reinsurer in an arbitration concerning its contractual right to increase nonguaranteed reinsurance premiums and secured a final award worth upwards of $115 million.
  • Representing reinsurers in disputes involving their obligations and their ability to increase premiums on books of yearly renewable term life insurance.
  • Counseled a reinsurer regarding their exposure to COVID-19 losses among their global reinsurance portfolio.
  • Achieved a complete victory for a reinsurer concerning allocation of losses among health reinsurance contracts.
