Chi-Yuan “Calvin” Chen counsels clients in intellectual property law on a variety of matters, particularly U.S. patent prosecution of utility and design patents as well as strategic patent portfolio development and management. Calvin also has experience working with the counsel they need on matters, including non-infringement and/or invalidity analysis, design around, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and patentability. The clients Calvin advises include multinational corporations and research institutes, startup companies, independent inventors, as well as foreign clients through their local counsels.
Calvin has experience prosecuting patents in a broad array of technological fields, including display technology, mechanics, electronics, semi-conductor apparatus and e-commerce.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese, Calvin has more than 20 years of patent prosecution experience. Before his career as a patent agent in the U.S., Calvin worked as a patent engineer for local patent law firms in Taipei, Taiwan, drafting numerous patent applications in both English and Chinese.
