Representative Matters

As a Troutman eMerge staff attorney, Eric assists case teams and eMerge discovery attorneys and project managers with overseeing the document review and production process. He also conducts higher-level document review and analysis. Eric frequently serves as a review team lead, supervising project attorneys to ensure substantive document review is carried out consistently with the directives of the case team within the deadlines required.

Eric leverages his knowledge of the facts and documents to assist case teams throughout the life cycle of the case, including preparing privilege logs, chronologies and deposition preparation materials in construction, environmental, manufacturing, regulatory, financial services, and antitrust matters. Eric also conducts targeted searches to help identify key documents, inconsistencies in the review, or nonresponsive categories of documents that can be excluded from the review process.

A few additional ways that Eric helps improve document review quality while containing costs include:

  • Performing quality control reviews of project attorney document review sets and providing feedback and additional training as needed to avoid the inadvertent production of privileged or nonresponsive documents, as well as to ensure responsive documents are properly coded and produced.
  • Working with case teams to identify the scope of review and criteria for production, including coding of documents for privilege, key issues, and/or confidentiality.
  • Developing review workflows that reduce the time necessary to move documents through various review phases.
  • Identifying and implementing a discovery strategy to assist clients in locating relevant information in response to discovery requests.

Eric has in-depth experience managing teams of attorneys and support staff in all phases of discovery and trial preparation in complex litigation and business litigation matters. Prior to focusing on eDiscovery, Eric practiced as a commercial litigation partner at another firm. He uses this experience to help case teams implement discovery plans that are uniquely tailored to fit the needs of each client and matter.
