Ira Genberg

Prior to his retirement, Ira Genberg was a partner and a leader of the firm’s construction practice. Throughout his legal career, Ira represented major corporations in complex, high-stakes litigation throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. His precedent-setting victory against the House of Commons established new law throughout the European community; and in another landmark case, he proved a nationwide price-fixing conspiracy, the damage and injunctive relief amounting to nearly $500 million.

Ira worked with owners and contractors on complex commercial, industrial, power, hotel, university and civil projects around the world; regularly drafted and negotiated construction contracts for national and international clients; provided ongoing advice as to the overall planning and operation of projects; and sought to resolve disputes as they arose so as to avoid litigation. He was instrumental in leading the effort to draft several comprehensive, industry-wide construction agreements.

His novel Reckless Homicide sold more than 500,000 copies, and was a Best American Novel nominee for the Edgar Allen Poe Literary Award. All royalties from the novel’s sale were donated to the United Way, a portion of which monies were used to create a new program with the Atlanta Legal Aid Society that helps those with cancer, ALS and other life-threatening diseases cope with legal problems, such as disputed insurance coverage, Social Security benefits and estate planning. Ira also served on the Boards of the Red Cross and the Home Project, and worked pro bono for Atlanta’s Center for Civil and Human Rights.
