James is an associate in the firm’s Energy Practice Group, where he represents electric utilities, developers, contractors, financial institutions, and other clients doing business in the energy sector, as well as clients involved in the development and acquisition of large-scale infrastructure assets, regarding transactional and regulatory matters.

He has experience with the drafting and negotiating of major documentation relating to the development, construction, acquisition, financing, sale, and operation of energy and infrastructure assets employing renewable energy technologies.

  • Represented a public utility company in its exit from leases for an approximately 114 MW generating interest in a nuclear generating station, the sale of related generating and transmission assets, and the structuring of ongoing decommissioning obligations.
  • Represented a southwestern public utility company with the sale of undivided ownership interests in generation and other assets totaling more than 250 MW of coal-fired generation, including negotiation of purchase and sale agreements and strategic advice on reclamation obligations, right of first refusal issues, seasonal operations, and other unique deal structuring points.
  • Represented a public utility holding company in the ownership structuring and tax equity financing of first-of-its-kind co-located battery storage at two operating solar facilities, totaling approximately 160 MW of storage capacity.
  • Represented a public utility company in the negotiation of an EPC agreement and O&M services agreement relating to the construction, integration, and servicing of an approximately 100 MW battery storage system.
  • Represented a public utility company and its joint-venture affiliate in negotiating agreements relating to the development, construction, O&M, transportation, and pipeline offtake interconnection for renewable natural gas facilities.
