Michael focused his practice on patent and trademark work and was experienced in all aspects of litigation for patent, trademark, trade dress, and trade secret cases, as well as patent and trademark prosecution, agreements, and client counseling.
Michael had extensive experience handling biotechnology patent matters and represents corporate, academic, and other institutional clients on patent prosecution, patent interferences, licenses and other agreements, and opinions. He prosecuted patent applications on a variety of pharmaceutical and biotechnology matters. His patent work in these industries included DNA diagnostics, immunoassays, allergy medications, inhibitors of fibroproliferative disorders, vaccines, genomics, DNA molecules from pathogens of human and plants, transgenic plants, and cell separation. Additionally, he advised clients in these industries on licenses, material transfer agreements, sponsored research agreements, and other contracts.
Michael was actively involved in patent litigation in federal district courts throughout the U.S. and before the U.S. International Trade Commission. His litigation work involved chemical processing, biomagnetic separation, structures for building fabrication, medical devices, protein purification, and recombinant DNA technology.
He authored numerous articles and spoke to organizations such as the Franklin Pierce Law Center on patent law topics, including the strategic use of reexamination and reissue in conjunction with patent litigation.
Before joining the firm, Michael was a member of another national law firm. Before entering private practice, he served as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and as a chemical engineer for the Gulf Oil Corporation and the Bendix Corporation.
