Preston focuses his practice on technology transactions, commercial contracts, data privacy, corporate partnering, strategic alliances, and technology protection, as well as the licensing and commercialization of technology assets and intellectual property.
Preston represents a diverse range of companies in numerous sectors, including software and SaaS, automotive, information technology, manufacturing, data, food and beverage, and health sciences — often acting as “outside general counsel.” He assists clients with licensing agreements, SaaS offerings, support and maintenance agreements, promotion and marketing agreements, collaboration and development agreements, manufacturing agreements, distribution agreements, reseller agreements, NDAs, data transfer agreements, data processing agreements, website terms and conditions and privacy policies, and a variety of other in-bound and out-bound structures and arrangements.
Additionally, Preston advises clients on the full spectrum of data privacy and cybersecurity issues, including, assessing and mitigating risks related to the privacy, security, commercialization, and ownership of personal data; planning, drafting, and implementing privacy, security, and data protection policies and best practices; and establishing and maintaining compliance with data privacy laws, regulations, and rules (e.g., GDPR, LGPD, CCPA, VCDPA).
Preston also has extensive experience counseling clients on complex domestic and international commercial transactions, mergers, acquisitions, financings, and other strategic transactions.
