eMerge 365 Alert Updates — September 2026
Getting the most out of Microsoft 365’s governance and compliance tools is harder than it looks. Many clients invest heavily in premium Microsoft 365 licensing but struggle to convert its advanced features into actionable workflows, measurable cost savings, and repeatable processes. eMerge 365 is where legal and IT teams can come to start solving that problem.
eMerge helps organizations operationalize their use of Microsoft Purview by aligning legal, compliance, privacy, IT, and the business around defensible, scalable information governance. eMerge bridges the gap by assessing current-state workflows, identifying risk and inefficiency, and designing practical future-state models that allow Purview to be used confidently for eDiscovery, data lifecycle management, information protection, and other core compliance workflows.
Recent eMerge 365 Alerts
Microsoft 365 changes seemingly every day, and not every platform update comes with clear compliance guidance. eMerge 365 Alerts track feature releases, deprecations, and configuration changes with direct implications for information governance, retention, eDiscovery, and records management. The alerts below were issued in recent months.
Management of External Bots Joining Your Teams Meetings
During Teams meetings, if an external third-party bot attempts to join a meeting, organizers will be able to see a clear representation of the bot while it waits in the lobby. Organizers will be required to explicitly and separately admit the bot into the meeting, if desired. This approach ensures that no one inadvertently accepts external bots into a meeting, promoting full organizer control over the presence of these bots. Click here to read the full alert.
Intelligent Meeting Recap Available Without Saving Transcript
Intelligent recaps in Microsoft Teams can now be generated without retaining a transcript after the meeting. Meeting organizers can choose this setting from the meeting options before the meeting, or organizers and eligible participants can enable it during the meeting. After the meeting, the AI summary will remain available even though no recording or transcript was ever saved. Click here to read the full alert.
Exchange Priority Cleanup
Microsoft is introducing a new priority cleanup feature in the Purview compliance portal that allows organizations to permanently delete Exchange email content, even when that content is subject to legal hold or retention policies. This capability can be valuable in narrowly defined, high-risk scenarios, but it also represents a meaningful shift in how defensible deletion, legal holds, and data governance must be managed. Sensitivity Label Inheritance for Teams Meeting Artifacts
Teams meeting artifacts, including recordings, transcripts, and Loop notes, can now be configured to automatically inherit the sensitivity label from the original meeting. This ensures content generated during meetings is consistently protected without requiring manual labeling, reducing risk and simplifying protection at scale. Click here to read the full alert.
Automatic Data Preservation for High-Risk Users
This Purview Data Lifecycle Management retention label feature will work in concert with the Adaptive Protection feature in Purview Insider Risk Management. Adaptive Protection protects an organization’s data by using dynamic insider risk levels derived from users’ data-related activities. Through its integration with Data Lifecycle Management, this new feature can automatically apply retention labels to preserve deleted emails and files according to each user’s insider risk level. SharePoint Authoritative Sites
The Authoritative Sites feature empowers administrators to designate specific SharePoint sites as official, trusted sources of information. By classifying these sites as authoritative, the contents of those sites are prioritized across Copilot Chat and Copilot Search experiences. Click here to read the full alert.
