Even before the IRA, Energy Storage deployment increased exponentially over the past 5 years, especially in the western energy markets. Now, the legislation’s passage has supercharged the market for, and deployment of standalone storage projects. And with the expanding benefits, storage is also being called upon to balance the load instead of acting solely as a means of energy arbitrage. This session will bring together experts working to deploy storage in the region to discuss the changes and impacts the IRA has brought, progress on achieving the most recent procurement targets, evaluate whether that target is be sufficient to maximize the benefits of renewables, and assess the best opportunities for standalone and hybrid storage in the Mountain West now and in the coming decade.
