Troutman Pepper Locke Named No. 1 Most Active Defense Firm in Lex Machina’s 2026 Consumer Protection Litigation Report

Troutman Pepper Locke’s Consumer Financial Services Practice Group ranked No. 1 among defense firms in Lex Machina’s 2026 Consumer Protection Litigation Report. The group defended more than 3,000 consumer protection cases across 85 U.S. districts from 2023 to 2025. The report found that federal consumer protection filings reached a 10-year high of 20,353 in 2025, up 31 percent from the prior year and roughly 50 percent above the 2022 low of 13,576. Lex Machina attributes the surge to credit reporting disputes, unwanted communications, and data breaches, amid rapid AI adoption and shifting federal enforcement priorities.

The Lex Machina report extracted raw counsel data from dockets and court filings in its specialized database, and structured the data to generate detailed analytics on law firms and individual attorneys.
