Troutman Pepper Locke Wins Project Finance Deal of the Year at 2025 Wind Investment Awards
LONDON – Troutman Pepper Locke was honored with the Project Finance Deal of the Year Award in the Advisory distinction at the 2025 Wind Investment Awards for representing Texas wind farm, Canadian Breaks, LLC, in a groundbreaking behind-the-meter power purchase structure. The award recognizes legal and technical advisory companies that closed or advised on a sensational project finance deal involving an offshore, onshore, or hybrid project.
Troutman Pepper Locke represented fund manager, Northleaf Capital Partners, a global private markets firm, and its funds’ portfolio company, Canadian Breaks, an owner and operator of a 210 MW wind project in the Texas panhandle, in the negotiation and execution of definitive agreements to sell electricity to a leading, vertically integrated operator of large-scale energy infrastructure and one of North America’s largest Bitcoin miners. The transaction showcases an innovative behind-the-meter power purchase agreement that allows for the colocation of a data center at an existing low-priced energy node, mitigating basis risk and materially increasing wind project revenues over the multi-year term of the agreements.
This deal not only set a precedent for future transactions but also demonstrated the potential for renewable energy projects to provide stable and reliable power to large-scale consumers.
The Troutman Pepper Locke team that advised Northleaf Capital Partners and its subsidiary, Canadian Breaks, was led by Lloyd MacNeil, Corey Neal, and Alejandra Aponte.
Additionally, Troutman Pepper Locke was recognized as a finalist in the Legal Advisor of the Year category, which honors legal advisors showing the most extensive knowledge and dedication to wind energy investment across transactions and advisory work.
Now in its sixth consecutive year, the Wind Investment Awards program recognizes and celebrates best practices in the global onshore and offshore wind industry, incorporating innovation, financing, project development, and asset management. Hosted by global renewable energy and clean technology community, Tamarindo, the awards unite prominent decision makers to enable opportunities to network and forge long-term business connections.
