US Department of Energy To Study Jobs Impact of AI Use

A group of Troutman Pepper Locke attorneys were quoted in the April 15, 2026 Upstream article, “US Department of Energy To Study Jobs Impact of AI Use.”

  • Analysts at law firm Troutman Pepper Locke say data centre builders prefer to run their facilities off-grid, using natural gas-fired turbines, as it ensures a more reliable supply of electricity as opposed to using renewable energy sources.
  • The firm predicts data centres will ultimately embrace modular nuclear power once that technology becomes commercially feasible.
  • “More companies are looking at off-grid energy solutions at their data centre sites to avoid or minimise issues associated with grid power,” Troutman’s analysts said in a recent report.
  • “Hyperscalers also face practical issues, including access to water and supply chain pressures.”
