USPTO Recognizes Troutman Pepper with 2021 Patent Pro Bono Achievement Certificate
ATLANTA/RICHMOND, Va. – Troutman Pepper and three attorneys from the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group were awarded the 2021 Patent Pro Bono Achievement Certificate from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The certificate honors individuals and law firms that assist financially under-resourced inventors and small businesses seeking patents.
The USPTO’s Patent Pro Bono Program was established under the 2011 America Invents Act as a nationwide network of independently operated regional programs that match volunteer practitioners with inventors for the purpose of securing patent protection. Troutman Pepper is among 23 corporations and law firms recognized for contributing significant hours to one or more participating regional programs.
“We believe strongly in the USPTO’s mission to expand inclusive innovation,” said Robert Angle, who leads Troutman Pepper’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. “Our practice is proud to support efforts to remove financial barriers for innovators in our communities.”
Intellectual Property Attorneys Ryan Schneider, John Morrissett, and Scott Bergeson are recognized for providing 50 or more pro bono hours in 2021 to the Georgia PATENTS program, which assists solo inventors, nonprofits, and small businesses with finding patent agents and attorneys to help file patents on a pro bono basis. Troutman Pepper is a founding supporter of the program, which has grown to assist inventors in South Carolina and North Carolina.
“Troutman Pepper encourages our attorneys to choose meaningful pro bono work that makes a difference for underserved people or nonprofit agencies while advancing their professional skills,” said Partner Sara Richman, chair of Troutman Pepper’s pro bono program. “Our intellectual property attorneys are doing just that by partnering with the Georgia PATENTS program to support financially under-resourced inventors. We are proud to support their efforts.”
Each year, Troutman Pepper attorneys dedicate thousands of pro bono hours in support of nonprofits, military veterans, children, the wrongfully accused, and so many more. Learn more at troutman.com/pro-bono.
