With deep knowledge in emerging and complex issues involving COVID-19, business interruption insurance, environmental, directors and officers, general liability, technology/cyber, and professional liability coverage, Dan advises major insurance clients on coverage issues and litigates actions filed in state and federal courts. Dan also is an expert on liability issues facing insurance brokerages.

Dan advises major insurance companies on coverage issues involving multiple lines of insurance coverage, including environmental, pollution, general liability, professional liability, cyber liability, and directors and officers policies. In recent months, Dan’s focus has included insurance issues related to COVID-19, including issues relating to asserted business interruption coverage, property damage, remediation expenses, and civil authority coverages. Dan’s practice includes not only primary policies, but also program, excess, and umbrella coverages. He is frequently engaged to analyze complicated coverage issues involving such policies and to advise clients regarding coverage determinations and strategies for resolving disputes. Dan has litigated matters involving coverage disputes and bad faith to judgment and through appeal. He also maintains an active practice representing insurance brokers in professional liability matters and litigating a broad range of business disputes in Connecticut and New York courts.

Dan earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to becoming an attorney, Dan worked on Capitol Hill and in educational fundraising.

  • Represented an insurer in a D&O coverage action, winning summary judgment in New York federal court on “related claims” issues and application of an insolvency exclusion.

  • Secured summary judgment and victory on appeal in an environmental liability coverage dispute regarding a matter of first impression in New York.
