Samrah is a commercial litigator who has successfully defended clients at all stages of a case, including at trial and on appeal. Samrah focuses her practice on litigating on behalf of health care companies and representing insurers in coverage and bad faith lawsuits. She also routinely defends companies against consumer class actions involving a variety of consumer protection statutes including, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, and California’s Unfair Competition law. She represents clients in both state and federal court, as well as at arbitrations.

In addition to maintaining her practice, Samrah has taught several courses at UC Irvine School of Law, including Antitrust Law and an Introduction to California Federal Local Rules & Filings.

Samrah served as a law clerk to the Honorable Josephine L. Staton of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California from 2012 to 2013. She was a member of the University of California, Irvine School of Law’s inaugural class and a senior editor of the UC Irvine Law Review. During law school, Samrah externed for the Honorable Richard M. Aronson, California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division Three. Samrah graduated summa cum laude from Chapman University with a B.A. in psychology.

  • Represented an international retailer in consumer and competitor class actions involving false advertising and unfair competition claims in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and in San Francisco Superior Court.
  • Represented a commercial retailer in a trademark dispute in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
  • Represented an international hotel operator in a fraud and promissory estoppel action in Ventura County Superior Court.
  • Represented financial services company in defense of class action alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) based on calls allegedly made without consent.
  • Represented regional bank based in the south /midwest  in defense of class action alleging violation of the TCPA based on text alerts sent to alleged reassigned numbers.
  • Representing bank based in Hawaii in defense of class action alleging violation of the TCPA based on texts sent through text banking system.

Insurance

  • Represented an insurer in a coverage and bad faith action brought by a water district in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
  • Represented an insurer in a coverage and bad faith action in Hawaii District Court relating to an underlying construction defect/product liability lawsuit arising from the failure of a rooftop deck at a shopping center.
  • Represented an insurer in a coverage and bad faith action in Orange County Superior Court, Complex Division, relating to underlying product defect class actions.
  • Representing an insurer in a coverage and bad faith action in Los Angeles Superior Court related to underlying environmental actions.

Health Care Litigation

  • Represented a health plan in a multiweek jury trial in Los Angeles Superior Court that resulted in a complete defense verdict; defeated a health care provider’s breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant, and fraud claims; successfully defended the verdict on appeal.
  • Represented a health plan in an action for breach of contract and fraud brought by a provider over commercial reimbursement rates in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
  • Represented a health plan in Orange County Superior Court, Complex Division, in an action for breach of contract and unfair competition brought by an out-of-network provider over commercial reimbursement rates for emergency services.
  • Represented a health plan in various arbitrations regarding reimbursement for Medicare claims.
  • Representing a health plan in litigation brought by out-of-network providers over reimbursement rates in California state and federal courts.
