ATLANTA – Troutman Pepper advised Greenwood in its formation, seed funding and bank partnerships related to its launch of a financial services platform focused on Black and Latinx consumers. Read a company press release about the new online bank here.
Civil rights legend Andrew Young, rapper-activist Michael Render, aka Killer Mike, and television executive Ryan Glover founded Greenwood to reach underserved communities. The new financial platform is the first of its kind and will feature online banking services and focus on giving back to Black and Latinx causes and businesses.
Led by Partner James Stevens, the team of Troutman Pepper attorneys advising Greenwood includes Keith Barnett, Kevin Coleman, Paige Fitzgerald, Troy Jenkins, Jóna Mays, Austin Padgett and Brenna Sheffield.
“Troutman Pepper is proud to help Greenwood with the launch of its financial services platform,” Stevens said. “We support its mission of bringing banking services to the underserved Black and Latinx communities.”
The firm will contribute a portion of its legal fees to the Greenwood Gives Back Program, which supports historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) through the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), advances civil rights with the NAACP, and fights hunger with Goodr.
Troutman Pepper’s Financial Services Practice includes more than 200 attorneys who regularly advise financial services providers, including banks, neobanks, payment processors, card issuers and consumer and commercial marketplace lenders. Troutman Pepper handles their full spectrum of legal needs.
