Dallas – Brock M. Degeytera highly respected energy attorney and former general counsel for numerous leading companies in the midstream oil and gas industry, has joined Troutman Pepper Locke’s market-leading Energy Transactional Practice Group as a partner in the firm’s Dallas office. Degeyter’s extensive experience in energy M&A, private equity, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance will further strengthen the firm’s ability to serve clients across the evolving Texas and national energy markets.

Degeyter brings more than 20 years of experience in the energy sector, most recently serving as general counsel, chief compliance officer, and secretary at Medallion Midstream until its acquisition by ONEOK, Inc. In his role as the company’s first and only general counsel, he provided legal counsel on Medallion’s operational and corporate development initiatives. As chief compliance officer, Degeyter developed and managed Medallion’s compliance programs, addressing legal, governmental, and regulatory requirements, including those related to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and various state and municipal regulations pertinent to oil and gas transportation, processing, and marketing.

“Brock’s extensive experience across the midstream oil and gas sector, paired with his deep understanding of executive decision-making, makes him a stand-out addition to our firm,” said Christine Byrnes, leader of Troutman Pepper Locke’s Energy Transactional Practice Group. “Many of our attorneys worked closely with Brock during his tenure as general counsel for two of our midstream clients, so we know firsthand the caliber of his work. He will be a dynamic force in expanding our M&A and private equity practices in Dallas.”

Degeyter has extensive experience overseeing complex business transactions at major energy companies, including Summit Midstream Partners, where he held positions as executive vice president, general counsel, chief compliance officer, and corporate secretary. During his time at Summit, he held significant responsibilities across legal, regulatory, and human resources domains, reporting directly to the CEO. He also played a key role in Summit’s initial public offering.

“Brock is the perfect example of our strategic commitment to attracting top talent in Texas,” added Elizabeth Mack, Dallas office managing partner. “Thanks to Brock’s extensive network and strong reputation, he will help build upon the success we have had as a law firm positioning ourselves as a leader in the energy sector.”

Before returning to private practice, Degeyter’s expansive career included pivotal roles in landmark transactions, such as the leveraged buyout of TXU Corp. (now Energy Future Holdings) by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Texas Pacific Group, and Goldman Sachs, the largest private equity buyout in U.S. history at the time. He also has extensive experience advising on corporate matters, with a strong focus on securities regulations, structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate transactions.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside Troutman Pepper Locke’s attorneys for many years, and I know from experience the incredible work they do across the energy sector,” said Degeyter. “Joining a team I respect and trust is an exciting next step, and I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to deliver outstanding results and innovative solutions for our clients.”
