CHICAGO – Troutman Pepper Locke collaborated with the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) to secure a $25,000 payment from the Traumatic Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance Program (TSGLI) for a Navy SEAL veteran who suffered a traumatic brain injury during deployment. The veteran, who was medically retired due to the injury, and his wife expressed profound gratitude for the assistance provided during this challenging transition.

Troutman Pepper Locke’s Jessica Ring, in partnership with the NVLSP, assisted the client in completing the initial TSGLI application, meticulously reviewed medical evidence and other necessary documentation, and drafted a comprehensive legal memorandum. Despite an initial improper rejection of the claim, Ring worked diligently with the client and NVLSP to appeal the decision. The Navy ultimately agreed with the appeal, resulting in the approval of the $25,000 payment.

“We are honored to have played a role in securing these critical benefits for our client,” Ring said. “This outcome not only provides financial support but also acknowledges the sacrifices made by our servicemembers. We are proud to support our veterans as they navigate their post-service lives.”

The NVLSP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that the nation honors its commitments to veterans and active-duty personnel by securing the benefits they have earned through their service. Since its inception in 1981, NVLSP has been instrumental in representing veterans in legal matters, resulting in billions of dollars in benefits awarded to veterans and their families.
