- “It’s not an easy, simple idea about what’s public and not public relating to land ownership or mortgages, because there’s no federal standard for this,” said James Shreve, a partner at Troutman Pepper Locke specializing in data privacy, noting that some jurisdictions still list Social Security numbers in filings.
- “Fannie and Freddie operate in a bit of a gray area, because usually there are privacy laws that apply to government entities and to private entities — and Fannie and Freddie are kind of between,” Shreve said.
